During the great depression, large portion of american household are left with insufficient income.
Because of this, a lot of households started to embrace the idea for women to also join the workforce in order to add the income. This eventually lead to activism for equal access to employment and other freedom for women.
Despite this efforts, there were still a lot of groups in society that wanted to discourage this. They still put stress on marriage as end goal for women in order to maintain the power in society.
