In this context, appropriation refers to the act of using other people's name, characters, trademarks, or personalities in order to obtain some sort of benefit.
Having similar laugh and sounds with other people usually would not make us become a target from appropriation law (as long as we are not knowingly copy it for profit)
But, more talks encourage its employees to mimic the characteristics that is possessed by its competitors in order to obtain financial gain. This make them liable for appropriation.
