in the first half he would have swam 1 km. there are 1000m in a km so 1000/200=5 so he swam the first 200 fly, then a 200 breast, then a 200 fly again, then another 200 breast the finish the first 1 km with a 200 fly. so we switched strokes 4 times.
PS i wouldn't recommend doing a 2 km swim fly and breast
Adam switch strokes 4 times during the first half of the race
Further explanation
The division operation is one of the basic arithmetic operations
Common signs used are [tex]\large{\boxed{:}}}[/tex] or [tex]\large{\boxed{\slash}}[/tex]
The division is written by placing the numerator above the denominator with a horizontal line between them or use a slash with the numerator's position and the denominator is parallel
The division is actually an iterative subtraction operation (as many as the number of divisors)
Division is the opposite of multiplying
The general form of division can be stated by:
[tex]\large{\boxed{\bold{divident:divisor=quotient+remainder}}[/tex]
example:
7: 3 = 2 + 1
- 7 = dividend
- 3 = divisor
- 2 = quotient
- 1 = remainder
The form of division can also be expressed in terms of fractions
In the number above, the form of fraction obtained is the form of mixed fractions
[tex]\displaystyle \frac{7}{3} =2\frac{1}{3}[/tex]
Mixed fractions consist of integers and ordinary fractions
Division operation statement:
"7 divided by 3 equals 2 remainder 1
- The first half of the race,
it means :half of a 2 km race :
[tex]\displaystyle \frac{1}{2} \times2\:km[/tex]
[tex]\displaystyle =\boxed{1\:km}[/tex]
- Adam changes from breaststroke to butterfly every 200m,
he switches strokes after passing the first 200 m so he switches strokes by:
[tex]\displaystyle (1000\:m(=1\:km)-200\:m)\div200\:m[/tex]
[tex]=800\:m\div200\:m[/tex]
[tex]\large{\boxed{\bold{4\:times}}}[/tex]
