Can someone help me with this?

The two shorter sides of a triangle are the same length. The length of the longer side is 5 m longer than each of the shorter sides. The perimeter of the triangle is 29 m. Write and solve an equation to determine the length of the longest side of the triangle. Explain each step you perform.

Respuesta :

The triangle is an isosceles triangle because only 2 of the sides are equal.

Because the perimiter was provided all you need to do is set up an equation to determin the sides.

x+x+(x+5)=29

the variable x represents the unknown measurments of the sides.

First isolate the variable:

x+x+(x+5)=29

3x+5=29

3x=24

x=8

Your x measurment stands for the 2 smaller sides.

Add 5 to the variable to get your longer side.

8+5=13

Your long sided measurment is 13cm

To chesck your answer add your measurmens together to get the perimeter:

8+8+13=29
