The recovery principle states that an athlete needs an appropriate amount of time after a workout or a competition in order to fully recover his or her original physical state. This time is just as important as the actual workout or competition time, as inappropriate management of recovery time could lead to injury that would leave the athlete out of action for a couple of weeks or even months.
