An "Address" record also know as "host" record

A host record is also a DNS record that is responsible for resolving an IP to a domain name.

Further Explanation:

1. Domain Name System (DNS)

The Domain Name System (DNS) is like a phonebook of the Internet. Humans access information online through its domain names, like nytimes.com or espn.com. Web browsers interact through Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. DNS translates domain names to IP addresses so browsers can load Internet resources.

2. DNS and its types

Domain name servers DNS or nameserver, maps device hostnames with their individual IP addresses. DNS is normally executed using a focal server/s that is authoritative for a domain and refer to different DNS servers for other domains. There are four DNS server configuration types:

  • Master:

It has the authoritative zone records for the domain that acts as DNS server. Answers straightforwardly questions about the legitimate domain and forwards other domain queries to other DNS servers.

  • Slave:

Slave DNS server acts as an legitimate DNS server getting the zone records from the DNS master server.

  • Catching-only:

Catching-only DNS server is not legitimate for any zone, all queries are forwarded to other DNS servers if they are not stored in the DNS – cache Zone. Answer for all queries are cached in DNS-cache Zone for a time.

3. Domain name registration

The right to use a domain name is designated by domain name registrars which are accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) or different associations, for example, OpenNIC, that are charged with overseeing the name and number systems of the Internet. In addition to ICANN, each top-level domain (TLD) is maintained and serviced technically by an administrative organization, operating a registry. A registry is responsible for operating the database of names within its authoritative zone, although the term is most often used for TLDs. A registrant is a person or association who asked for domain registration. The registry receives registration information from each domain name registrar, which is authorized (accredited) to assign names in the corresponding zone and publishes the information using the WHOIS protocol.
