Your family has decided to put a rectangular patio in your backyard similar to the shape of your backyard. Your backyard has a length of 50 feet and a width of 25 feet. The length of your new patio is 16 feet. Find the perimeter of your new patio.

Respuesta :

If shapes are similar than ratios between their corresponding measurements should not change
L1/W1=L2/W2
50/25=16/W2
W2=(25*16)/50=16/2=8 ft
P of a new patio= 2*(L2+W2)=2(16+8)= 48 ft

The perimeter of the new patio given it's length is 48 feet

  • Length of backyard = 50 feet
  • Width = 25 feet
  • Length of patio = 16 feet
  • Width = x

Equate the ratio of length and width of backyard to patio

50 : 25 = 16 : x

50/25 = 16/x

50× x = 25×16

50x = 400

x = 400/50

x = 8 feet

How to find perimeter of a rectangle

Perimeter of patio = 2(length+ width)

= 2(16 + 8)

= 2(24)

= 48 feet
