OK. Germany backed Austria. Austria declared War on Serbia. Serbia was backed by Russia (Not the USSR at the time) Germany then proceeded to declare war on russia. Russia had a treaty with france that stated if they were attacked, France would join in. France had a similar treaty with the UK. So France declared war on germany, germany declares war back, the UK declares war on germany. And then we have a full out european war. Only problem is that they have colonies everywhere making it a World War.
