Hi there! When having a look at the function g(x) graphed in the coordinate plane, we can see the following:

[tex]g( - 1) = - 3[/tex]
[tex]g(1) = 5[/tex]

This is because the x-coordinates are given and we can find the y-coordinate by moving up or down till intersecting the graphed function.
