The Civil War was caused by the tariffs imposed on the southern foreign trader. As the Northern states were industrializing and producing and manufacturing and didn't relied on foreign trade they felt like the tariffs would influence the South to stop trading and abroad trade with the North building the economy. But the South were buying cheaper goods from other nations and felt no need to buy Northern goods. This idea lead to the angry South and demanding the North to get rid of the tariff.
