Line up 185x5 on the paper as if you were doing any other multiplication problem. 185 on top, 5 on the bottom with the x sign to the left. 5 times 5 is 25, drop the five, carry the 2, 5 times 8 is 40, plus the 2 we carried is 42, drop the two, carry the four, 5 times one is five, plus the four is 9. The answer is close to 1,000, so you'd circle the answer 1,000.
