You have not provided enough info for me to determine an exact answer, but I can explain the concept. An example would be (-8) and (5). Since -8 is negative and 5 is positive, we can immediately tell that 5 is the larger number, however absolute vales are a number's distance from the number zero, so they  are always positive.
Absolute value of (-8) is 8
Absolute value of (5) is 5
If you are still having a hard time with the concept of absolute value, find a number-line and count how many spaces it is away from zero. Hope this helped!
