replace x with -2
3(-2)^2 - -2 =
3*4 +2 = 14

Just plug in the values.
f(-2) = 3(-2)^2 - (-2) {Equation}
f(-2) = 3(4) - (-2) {Multiply}
f(-2) = 12 - (-2) {The signs become a positive; add}
