The term Hijrah or Hegira refers to the journey performed by the islamic prophet Muhammad and his followers, from Mecca to Medina in year 662. He secretly abandonned Mecca after receiving a warning about a complot that aimed to murder him.
Due to this information, the prophet was able to save his life and continued receiving his revelations of verses of the Quran, "the Word of God" for muslims. In Medina, he gathered all the tribes under the Consitution of Medina and in 629 he marched over the city of Mecca with 10,000 Muslim converts and seized it. Most of the Arabian Peninsula had converted to Islam by the death of Muhammad.
The Hijrah event also set the start of the islamic calendar.
Hijrah influenced the development of Islam because:
- With the Islamic, Hijrah can be introduced to areas that do not know religion.
- With the emigration of the Prophet Muhammad introduced that Islam is a doctrine that regulates human relations with God, also a religion that is concerned with the formation of society.
- Islam came to the areas it entered with a sympathetic and tolerant attitude, not forcing people to change their religion and convert to Islam.

In the historical context of Hijrah, Hijrah is a transfer activity carried out by the Prophet Muhammad and his companions from Mecca to Medina, with the aim of maintaining and enforcing the rules of Allah, in the form of Islamic creed and sharia.
Hijrah is a principle of life, we must always explain it clearly. In Hijrah language means leaving. Someone is said to migrate if he meets two conditions, namely:
- First, there is something left
- And secondly, there is something that is intended (the goal).
Both must be done by someone who will emigrate. Abandon all things that are bad, negative, conditions that are not conducive, lead to better conditions, positive and conditions conducive to upholding the teachings of Islam.
In the historical reality of Hijrah is always associated with leaving a place, namely, the event of the emigration of the Prophet and his companions leaving precisely that is not conducive to preaching. Even the Hijrah event was the basis of the Muslims as the beginning of the Hijriyah year.
