The term Hijrah or Hegira refers to the journey performed by the islamic prophet Muhammad and his followers, from Mecca to Medina in year 662. He secretly abandonned Mecca after receiving a warning about a complot that aimed to murder him.

Due to this information, the prophet was able to save his life and continued receiving his revelations of verses of the Quran, "the Word of God" for muslims. In Medina, he gathered all the tribes under the Consitution of Medina and in 629 he marched over the city of Mecca with 10,000 Muslim converts and seized it. Most of the Arabian Peninsula had converted to Islam by the death of Muhammad.

The Hijrah event also set the start of the islamic calendar.

Hijrah influenced the development of Islam because:

- With the Islamic, Hijrah can be introduced to areas that do not know religion.
