The Great Depression started in August 1929, when the United States economy initially went into a financial retreat.  

The Depression caused major political changes in America. Three years into the depression, President Herbert Hoover, broadly blamed for not doing what's necessary to battle the emergency, lost the race of 1932 to Franklin Delano Roosevelt in an avalanche. Roosevelt's economic recovery plan, the New Deal, initiated exceptional projects for alleviation, recuperation and change, and achieved a noteworthy realignment of American legislative issues.
