The French had several competitions in establishing colonies in other countries. There's the Spain, United Provinces, and Portugal. France established the colonies in Caribbean, America, and India in the 17th century. They brought French culture and Christianity to these countries. Aside from sending people from colonies to the metropolitan France to become slaves, they also forced poor farmers to pay very high tax.
