A pair of equations is shown below:

y = 7x − 8
y = 5x − 2

Part A: Explain how you will solve the pair of equations by substitution or elimination. Show all the steps and write the solution. (5 points)

Part B: If the two equations are graphed, at what point will the lines representing the two equations intersect? Explain your answer. (5 points)

Respuesta :

Substitution Method:
y=7x-8 ------(1)
y=5x-2 ------(2)

From (2) y=5x-2 sub into (1)
5x-2=7x-8
5x-7x=-8+2
-2x=-6
x=3 sub into (2)
y=5(3)-2
y=13
--------------------------------------
(x,y) = (3,13)
substitution method would go as follows
5x-2=7x-8 we than rearange it so it becomes 5x-7x=-8-2 this than becomes -2x=-6 so x=3
we can than substitute 3 for x in one of the first equations
y=7 times 3-8 = 21-8 = 13
so therfore the interception should be at 3,13
