The point in a planet's orbit where it is farthest from the Sun is called the Aphelion. On the other hand, if this planet is Earth, Earth is closest to the sun in about 2 weeks after the solstice of December. This point is called the Perihelion contrary to Aphelion. The planet will be called the apogee or perigee depending on which point it is in.

farthest - aphelion

closest - perihelion

solstice - the time when the Sun is directly overhead either its northernmost or southernmost point on Earth; usually around June 21 in the northern hemisphere and December 21 in the southern hemisphere
