David will rent a car for the weekend. He can choose one of two plans. The first plan has an initial fee of
$36
and costs an additional
$0.13
per mile driven. The second plan has an initial fee of
$49
and costs an additional
$0.08

per mile driven. For what amount of driving do the two plans cost the same?

[tex]x[/tex] - amount of driving
First plan cost:
[tex]36+0.13x[/tex]

Second plan cost:
[tex]49+0.08x[/tex]

[tex]36+0.13x=49+0.08x[/tex]
[tex]0.13x-0.08x=49-36[/tex]
[tex]0.05x=13[/tex]
[tex]x=\dfrac{13}{0.05}=260[/tex]
The two plans cost the same for 260 miles of driving.

[tex]36+0.13\cdot 260=69.8[/tex]
The cost for such amount of driving is $69.80.
