Drypoint art is basically using a copper plate with a diamond or carbide-tipped needle to make indents in what is typically some kind of wood block, creating patterns, words, etc. You then ink the block, wash the block, leaving ink in the crevices. You can now use a printing press or something with a LOT of pressure to apply the ink to paper.

To create a drypoint, the artist draws onto a metal plate using a hard tipped needle known as a burr. The pressure and burr with influence how the final piece appears.
