Read this excerpt from A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen.
Nora: More than anyone else. I know you are my truest and best friend, and so I will tell you what it is. Well, Dr. Rank, it is something you must help me to prevent. You know how devotedly, how inexpressibly deeply Torvald loves me; he would never for a moment hesitate to give his life for me.
Rank: (Leaning towards her) Nora, do you think he is the only one?
Nora: (With a slight start) The only one?
Rank: The only one who would gladly give his life for your sake.
Nora: (Sadly) Is that it?
Rank: I was determined you should know it before I went away, and there will never be a better opportunity than this. Now you know it, Nora. And now you know, too, that you can trust me as you can trust no one else.
Nora: (Rises, deliberately and quietly) Let me pass.
Rank: (Makes room for her to pass him, but sits still) Nora.

Why do you think Nora stopped the conversation?

Respuesta :

I think Nora stopped the conversation is because she is thinking if she is meant to be with him or with someone else. And she may remembering if he save her life a couple of times.

In these lines, we are given a hint of the true relationship between Dr. Rank and Nora. Although he is a minor character in the play, it is often Dr. Rank who is able to see Nora more clearly than anyone else in the play. In this passage, we see that Nora talks about the love that her husband has for her, and Dr. Rank states that he is not the only person who loves her. This implies that Dr. Rank is also in love with her, and Nora most likely stopped the conversation to prevent him from confessing his true feelings.
