Derivative of sec^2(x? it equals 2*sec^2(x*tan(x but why doesn't the ^2 part disappear? the derivative of sin^2(x = 2sinxcosx so i thought the ^2 part would disappear in the derivative of sec^2(x..

use the product rule

dy/dx = sec x * sec x tan x + sec x tan x sec x
         = 2 sec^2 tan x
