In the Iliad 16, Achilles sends his Myrmidon soldiers to accompany Patroclus who had not been fighting during their commanders absence. Then he prays that Patroclus returns with himself and the ships unharmed. However, Zeus grants only one of the prayer as revealed by the poet.
Book 16 is considered to be a turning point since in it Zeus knows that his son Sarpedon and Achilles friend Patroclus will be killed but sits idly knowing that the death of Patroclus will lead Achilles to fight for the Greeks.
