Some starburst galaxies are much brighter in infrared radiation than they are in visible light because the dust surrounding the galaxies warms up and emits infrared light after absorbing visible light. Because of this, starburst galaxies produce up to 98% of their total energy in the infrared, making them some of the brightest infrared objects in the cosmos.
