Susie learned to sit on the floor and cry until she is given a piece of candy. This is an example of Operant conditioning.

Operant conditioning is a learning process through which behavior is modified through enforcement or punishment.

There are also different types of conditioning: classical conditioning which is learned through association, operant conditioning learned through consequences and observational learning learned with observation.

There are four types of operant conditioning: positive reinforcement, positive punishment, negative reinforcement, and negative punishment. For positive conditioning, with a reward the likelihood of a certain behavior increases.

Through this conditioning, behavior that is rewarded will be likely repeated and which is punished will rarely occur.
