Total numbers that can be divided by 2

Number that are multiples of 2 = 1000 ÷ 2 = 500

Total numbers that are multiples of 9

Numbers that are multiples of 9 = 1000 ÷ 9 = 111 R 1

111 of the numbers are multiples of 9

Of the 111 numbers that are multiples of 9, half of the numbers are even and had been included in multiples of 2.

111 ÷ 2 = 55 R 1

111 - 55 = 56

56 of the numbers are multiples of 9

Total numbers that can be multiples of 2 or 9

111 + 56 = 167

Total number that are neither multiples of 2 nor 9

1000 - 167 = 833
