Xerophytic type of plants grows in desert climates. Xerophytes are the species of plants that have adaptations to survive in an environment with very less water such as desert regions. Cacti and pineapple are examples of Xerophytes.
Xerophytic plants show various adaptations in different parts such as modified roots and stem that allow the plants to store water, and modified leaves where a very thick layer of the cuticle is present apart from that the leaves are smaller or modified into needles to prevent water loss through evaporation.
Xerophytic plants use CAM (Crassulacean acid metabolism) pathway for photosynthesis where stomata opens only at night further preventing water loss.
