Lymphocytes are tested to identify that they do not bind to any self-antigens. This test is called negative selection.

Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cells that protect the body against any foreign invaders. They are of three types: B-cells, T-cells and Natural Killer cells. They constitute about 20-40% of the WBCs. Their formation occurs in the bone formation. However maturation may take at some other location.

Negative selection in immunology is the phenomenon in which B-cells and T-cells are bound to the self-antigens. This can be useful in the removal of allelic forms that are deleterious in nature.
