Gastrin is released by the diffuse neuroendocrine system (DNES) cells of the gastric glands.
Gastrin is a peptide hormone produced by G cells in upper small intestine and stomach lining and is released in blood circulation. Gastrin simulates the stomach to release hydrochloric acid (gastric acid) during a meal. Thus it is primarily responsible for gastric motility, secretion of HCl, gastric mucosal growth.
Excess gastrin hormones may lead to increased gastric acid, the symptoms experienced due to this would be heartburn, nausea and diarrhea.
