The Nephron is the functional unit of the kidney that is responsible for filtering, reabsorbing and secreting components of the blood.
The Nephron is the basic structural and functional unit of the kidney. Each of the kidney is made up of million filtering units and these units are nephrons. Further, each nephron includes a filter called the glomerulus and a tubule. The glomerulus filters the blood and the tubule returns the needed substances to your blood and removes waste.
The glomerulus is a cluster of tiny blood vessels which allows smaller molecules, wastes and fluids, mostly water to pass onto the tubule. Larger molecules such as the proteins and blood cells, stay in the blood vessel. Further, a blood vessel runs alongside the tubule which absorbs all of the water, minerals and nutrients and the tubule helps remove excess acid from the blood. The remaining fluid and wastes become urine.
