The grey matter structure of the dorsal cord that is primarily involved in the passing and modulation of pain, fever and touch is called Substantia Gelatinosa of Rolando (SGR). It is given the name after the famous Italian Luigi Rolando who first explained the neuroanatomical region in the early 19th century. SGR expands into the whole spinal cord.
