Some poor health habits, such as drinking and overeating, can develop among people in response to social anxiety

What is Social Anxiety?

It's common to experience anxiety in certain social situations. For instance, giving a presentation or going on a date can make you feel butterflies in your stomach. But when you have social anxiety disorder, also known as social phobia, you constantly worry about how other people will react to you in social situations and feel self-conscious and embarrassed.

When you have social anxiety disorder, your life may be disrupted by avoidance caused by fear and anxiety. Your relationships, daily routines, job, studies, and other activities may be negatively impacted by extreme stress.

Although taking medication and developing coping mechanisms in psychotherapy might help you build confidence and enhance your social skills, social anxiety disorder can be a persistent mental health problem.
