When determining which mobility procedures to use in patient care, the first question that should be considered is whether the patient is able to cooperate and follow guidelines.
Patients should be mobilized safely and consistently is one of the challenging procedures. Accuracy in assessment improves the mobility status as it allows healthcare providers to provide improvements if needed and apply interventions to mobilize patients which is urgent, even when deficits are present. The result can be progressed through physical independence at a minimum level. This mobility procedure maintains the strength of the patient and decreases risks regarding bed rest.
The mobility of the patient is an indicator of health and a predictor of clinical outcomes. However, mobility status is not measured in hospitalized patients routinely. And due to this physicians are unable to recognize when patients experience declines in mobility status when they are hospitalized and should be considered.
Routinely measuring a patient’s mobility status may help fast post-discharge procedures. Hence should evaluate whether a simple validated mobility assessment tool is assessed by nurses as part of routine clinical care in hospitals associated with discharge to a post-acute facility of the patient.
