Mid-latitude cyclones and hurricanes are examples of  scale weather synoptic-scale events.

Huge weather systems known as mid-latitude cyclones develop from low pressure systems and cover a large area with precipitation. In the winter especially, these cyclones can spread winter conditions across majority of the US, even in the southern parts, bringing continuous precipitation for many days across a huge area of the US.

A tropical storm that has sustained winds of 74 mph or greater is classified as a hurricane. A storm's eye typically measures 20 to 30 miles in width and can reach distances of 400 miles. A storm can be dangerous because of the wind, rain, and storm surge.
