Class E airspace is  controlled airspace that is not classified as Class E airspace Class A, B, C or D. Most of the airspace  over the United States is designated as Class E airspace. Cross-sectional maps and other maps showing all positions of Class E airspace with bases below MSL 1,500 feet. In areas where chart does not represent Class E facilities, Class E starts at 1,500  feet MSL.

In most areas, the base of Class E airspace is at 1,200 feet AGL. In  many other areas, the basis of Class E airspace is or 700 feet AGL surface. Some E-layer spaces start at the MSL elevation depicted on the graph, instead of the AGL elevation.

Class E airspace generally extends to 18,000 feet MSL (lower limit of Class A airspace). All airspace over FL 600 is Class E airspace.
