This was done as part of the efforts made by the Nixon administration to exert control over its political adversaries. They forced their way into the office of the Democratic National Committee, which was located in the Watergate complex of buildings in Washington, District of Columbia. The primary aspect of Nixon's involvement in the Watergate scandal was his efforts, along with those of members of his staff, to conceal what had taken place. In the end, the Watergate scandal was the cause of Richard Nixon's resignation as president. He stepped down so that he wouldn't have to face impeachment.
