Respuesta :

Thirty states received land claims according to the Homestead Act of 1862. Many Native American tribes considered these places to be their traditional or treaty grounds.

The president was given the power to seize and distribute tribal lands in the American West by the Dawes Act of 1887.

The Homestead Act led to an increase in population in the west of the country. Most Native Americans were uneasy as they observed the entrance of homesteaders. As more settlers moved in, they were forced to live on reservations or farther away from their previous homes. Some people looked for fresh possibilities. Many wished to change. Others fought to preserve their customary methods of living. They all understood such alterations would permanently impact their lives.

The Dawes Act resulted in the division of tribal lands into separate parcels. The only Native Americans who could become citizens of the US were those who agreed to accept the particular parcels of land. The remaining land was subsequently divided up and sold to white immigrants.
