Desserts include both pies and cakes. Icing covers cakes. Pies consequently have icing. This is an illustration of the fallacy of false analogy.

What is a False analogy?

An informal fallacy is a fallacious analogy. It holds true for inductive reasoning. Because the error relates to the subject of the argument rather than the argument itself, it is an informal fallacy. An analogy suggests a connection between two notions (A and B) that are similar in some ways and some properties. Because A possesses X, B must likewise possess X. Although there may be some similarities between the objects in a false analogy, they do not share property X. In this manner, even though both things may share the same hue, it does not follow that they are the same size. Even though the sun and bananas both appear yellow, this does not necessarily mean that they are the same size. It's common to refer to someone as "comparing apples and oranges" when they make an erroneous analogy or comparison.
