how can the graph be used to predict the output (y- value) associated with an input of 3 1/2

Respuesta :

The method to estimate the y - value from a graph is discussed below.

We have a graph.

We have to estimate how can the graph be used to predict the output (y- value) associated with an input of x = [tex]3\frac{1}{2}[/tex] = [tex]\frac{7}{2}[/tex] = 3.5

What is a Graph?

A diagram showing the relation between variable quantities, typically of two variables, each measured along one of a pair of axes at right angles.

According to the Question -

Assume that you have a graph plotted for the straight line given by -

y = 2x + 5              ...(1)

(Refer to the figure attached)

The x values are plotted along the horizontal line and the y values are plotted along the vertical axis. You can see in the diagram that for x = [tex]3\frac{1}{2}[/tex] or 3.5 the corresponding value for y is 6.8. You can repeat the same process for almost any value of x. Similarly, you can find out the value of y without using graph. For x = 5, using Eq (1), we get -

y = 2 x 5 + 5 = 15

Hence, using this way you can predict the y - value for any input.
