The Founding Fathers made the right decision to build a new government based on the beliefs of John Locke rather than Thomas Hobbes.

God actually created all men and women equal and free. This should be the basis of collective existence in an organized society. In such an organized society there is no need for an absolute monarch. The progress achieved in the United States would not have been possible had the monarchical British government continued. The founding of the United States also helped the British government rethink. The Queen is now less in her power than before the United States was formed.

John Locke's (1632 - 1704) belief is that God created all men and women essentially free and equal in the eyes of the Creator. He fought against the opposing belief that humans were created by God to obey a monarch.

Conversely, Thomas Hobbes (1588 - 1679) believed that an absolute monarchy was "the only true and proper form of government". In Leviathan's writings, Hobbes argued that "humans are inherently selfish creatures" and therefore needed a strong government for collective security that individuals could not secure for themselves.
