The Environmental Protection Agency is a federal administrative agency created by the U.S. Congress to coordinate the implementation and enforcement of federal environmental protection laws.
The United States federal government's independent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is in charge of environmental protection issues. On July 9, 1970, President Richard Nixon suggested the creation of the EPA on December 2, 1970, after Nixon signed an executive order, the agency officially launched. Hearings in the House and Senate committees approved the order establishing the EPA. The administrator of the agency is in charge and is chosen by the president with Senate approval.
The EPA maintains 27 laboratories, regional offices in each of its ten regions, and its main office in Washington D.C.
The organization carries out environmental evaluation, analysis, and instruction. Under a number of environmental laws, it is responsible for upholding and enforcing national standards in cooperation with state, tribal, and local governments.
