What is the scientific method?
The scientific method is a step-wise procedure for conducting scientific investigations. It is the only acceptable procedure used to understand natural phenomena.
The procedures include:
- Observation: observing phenomena and asking some germane questions in trying to understand the phenomena.
- Hypothesis formulation: forming hypotheses about the phenomena. Hypotheses are formed in such a way that they can be falsified.
- Testing of hypotheses: testing is done using relevant experiments. It involves setting up experiments and collecting data.
- Conclusion: The data obtained during experimentation are analyzed and conclusions made. Thereafter, the result is communicated to the scientific community.
