In Sudurpaschim province, during winters, the peak of the mountain have ice or snow and blanketing all the alps and the remaining cloud pass through mountain is not as cold and that causes rainfall on the west side of mountain.

Winter rainfall that occurs because of the westerly disturbance contributes nearly 3.5 percent of the country's annual rainfall. Further scientific evidence of climate change shows that the altering rainfall patterns has led to active rainfall in the winter season. The Hydrology and meteorology department has said that except weather stations in Dharan and Biratnagar, all other stations have recorded significantly more precipitation than their normal winter season.

Despite the rainfall, winter precipitation is considered valuable for winter crops, especially in high mountains where snow provides much needed moisture to the crops.
