The only Latin American country that officially joined in fighting World War I was Brazil.
When the War first broke out, Brazil declared that it was neutral and so would not be fighting in World War 1. The reason was to protect its fragile economic and social situation.
As time went on, events convinced Brazil of the need to join World War 1 much like the United States. And so in 1917, Brazil decided to join the fighting as a member of the Allies.
