Animal cells are eukaryotic cells protected by a semipermeable membrane, and composed of several organelles immersed in the cytosol. Genetic material is in the nucleus.

What is an animal cell?

These are eukaryotic cells. They carry their genetic material in the nucleus and mitochondria. Their organelles are located in the cytosol, and the whole cell content is protected by a flexible semipermeable cell membrane.

Among the organelles, we can mention,

  • Vesicles and vacuoles whose function is to store water, ions, and waste intracellular substances.

  • Mitochondria in charge of energy production

  • The endoplasmatic reticulum and Golgi complex are involved in protein synthesis, maturation, and transport.

  • There are also structures like microtubules and actin filaments that provide structure, shape the cell, and are involved in intracellular transport.

Animal cells also have pigments that provide color to tissues like the hair, the skin, or the eyes.

Depending on the cells and their function, we can also find cilia, flagella, or microvillus on their surface. Microvilli are fingerlike projections.

Now, we can laber each structure of the animal cell. You will find the image in the attached files.
