The myth Psyche's Promise tells the story of Psyche, a woman who breaks her promise to her husband, Eros, the god of love. The theme of the myth is it is important to keep one's promises.

After a while, Psyche became concerned about her sisters, who were grieving her supposed death. Psyche convinced Eros to let them visit her. Eros warned her to be careful, but Psyche remained unmoved. When the sisters visited Psyche, they inspected her wealth with narrow eyes and tight lips. Out of jealousy, they convinced Psyche that her husband was a beastly serpent, since she had never seen his figure. Psyche was terrified and agreed to find out the truth.

While Eros slept, Psyche shone an oil lamp on the form of her husband. It was Eros, the god of love! She dropped the oil lamp and gasped. Unfortunately, a drop of the burning oil fell on Eros's shoulder. He awoke with a cry. Eros saw that Psyche had broken her promise. He and the house disappeared.
