Urban women played a significant role in the struggle against Apartheid by entering into the labour force and taking jobs as both domestic workers and factory workers.
Women especially were at the forefront of the mission to make equality a reality in South Africa. In the 1970s the roles women played were changing dramatically under the immense political, domestic, and economic pressures of apartheid.
