Arsenic have a greater shielding effect to Potassium

Data;

  • Potassium
  • Arsenic

What is Shielding Effect

This is the effect in which atoms experience the effect of shielding from electrons before the current shell.

This process screens electron from experiencing the nuclear effecti.e they have reduced nuclear attraction compared to electrons closer to the nucleus.

Generally, atoms down the group experience a greater screening or shielding effect compared to those above them. So we can say shielding effect decreases down the group.

Since Potassium and Arsenic belong to the same group, we can say that Arsenic have a greater shielding effect compared to Potassium
