Proxima Centauri (Also known as Alpha Centauri), is basically a star. It's characteristic and physical appearance is, it is a red dwarf, a small low-mass star, about 4.25 light-years from the Sun in the constellation of Centaurus.
Proxima Centauri is a small, low-mass star located 4.2465 light-years (1.3020 pc) away from the Sun in the southern constellation of Centaurus. Its Latin name means the "nearest [star] of Centaurus".
