In recent years, the ability of American political parties to bridge elections and governance has been undermined by ideological polarization, because: the Republicans and Democrats have been less likely to, cooperate, work together and make compromises in proffering solutions to national problems.

In the United States of America, there are two (2) major political parties and these are:

  • The Republican party.
  • The Democratic party.

A Republican refers to a political member of the Republican party while a Democrat refers to a political member of the Democratic party.

These two political parties in America are a sharp contrast of one another in terms of the following:

I. Governance.

II. Policies,

III. Visions.

IV. Ideologies.

The ideological polarization suggests that the two political parties share divergent views on how to deal with governance of the American citizens.
